Definition of Meme coin

A meme coin is a cryptocurrency based on an internet (or social) meme. Based on blockchain and very similar technologies (such as decentralization and anonymity) as the major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, meme coins bring most of the value from the meme figure they carry and the trend that follows. Most famous meme coins are Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba (SHIB), and belong to the top ten largest cryptocurrencies globally. Usually starting as a “joke”, they can bring huge adoption. Warning, some meme coins are scam with the only goal to cash-in quick money.
